Clackamas County Oregon Abstract More than 80 small volcanoes are scattered throughout the Portland-Vancouver metropolitan area of northwestern Oregon and southwestern Washington. The history and petrology of this anomalous volcanic field have been elucidated by a comprehensive program of geologic mapping, geochemistry, 40 Ar/ 39 Ar. This book is the only one of its kind that focuses solely on the geologic history of the Pacific Northwest, and for that reason it could be used on any number of classes dealing with that subject. Included would be classes on geology or Oregon, Washington, Idaho, or the Pacific Northwest in general. The book focuses on plate tectonics, which underlies the geology of this .

Research within the Department of Earth Sciences focuses on the physical, chemical, and biological evolution of our planet. Our proximity to the Cascade volcanoes and the tectonic complexity of the western North American margin motivate numerous individual and collaborative studies, many of which benefit from on-site access to cutting-edge analytical, experimental, . [Portland]: State of Oregon, Dept. of Geology and Mineral Industries, Tsunamis are large ocean waves generated by major earthquakes beneath the ocean floor. Tsunamis caused by nearby earthquakes may reach the coast within minutes.

When the waves enter shallow water, they may rise to devastating force. People on the beach or in low coastal areas need to be aware that a.

Activities in the hazard zones identified in OCMC require that a Geologic Hazards Checklist be completed.

Detailed mapping of geology-related development risks was completed for seven small, relatively remote communities along the northern Oregon coast in Clatsop and Tillamook counties. More than 45 previously unmapped, active landslides up to 20 km2 in area were mapped along one km section of the 26 km of coastline studied Additional geologic Cited by: 1.

When the first edition of Roadside Geology of Oregon was published init was revolutionary the first book in a series designed to educate, inspire, and wow nongeologists. Back then, the implications of plate tectonic theory were only beginning to shape geologic research and discussion.
